Keeping Communities Housed in King County
Our Mission
As we recover from the pandemic, we know we can do better than going back to normal. Together, we must strengthen our community roots, so all of us, Black, brown, white, and Indigenous, can thrive.
The pandemic has exacerbated the renting crisis, pushing thousands of us into rental debt and widening the wealth gap by putting more financial burden on low-income households. Black, Indigenous, and communities of color are more likely to face discriminatory practices, and were also hit hardest by the pandemic, facing higher rates of unemployment and loss of income. But just like clean air, health care, and food, housing is a basic human need so we need our laws to reflect that by protecting renters.
While the state and local eviction moratoriums have provided temporary relief, we know we need to enact permanent protections to ensure we can recover and grow deep roots together.
We are fighting for stronger renter protections in Seattle, other cities in King County, King County and Washington State to create housing stability, give rental assistance programs time to work, and prevent a rise in homelessness that will lead to a new public health crisis just as COVID-19 is receding.
